Romney attacks Gingrich from the Left

Much has been made of Gingrich's attack on Newt Romney using the typical leftist canards concerning capitalism for ammo. Gingrich apologized today, saying that his statement stemmed from a lack of restraint, and that he actually does not believe what he said. I suppose it is a case of grabbing the nearest blunt object with which to bludgeon your opponent. Gingrich now says it was a mistake.

But Mitt Romney made a similar attack of his own, class warfare also being his blunt instrument of choice against Gingrich:
He’s a wealthy man - a very wealthy man. If you have a half-a-million-dollar purchase from Tiffany’s, you’re not a middle-class American.’’
So will the avalanche of Gingrich criticism coming from the establishment right be balanced with similar criticism of Romney? I won't hold my breath. As usual, the "anointed one" of the aristocratic right gets a pass.

It just goes to show how easy it is to play on the public's base covetousness and jealousy.  It only requires the suspension of rational thought. At least Gingrich has the good sense to apologize. It was an ugly road to travel indeed.
